North Turnaround/Privacy Mound, Lot 10

2009 was a year of improvements at Lakeview.  Kodiak Construction, Inc. spearheaded the above-ground work which included installing privacy mounds for Lots 10, 12 and 13; driveways,  and turnaround driveways at both the north and south ends of the common driveway to Lots 10 and 11 which is on the dam to the upper lake.

This October 20, 2008 photo is a view of the location of the future fire hydrant for Lot 11, the connection point for the gas and water lines as well as the north turnaround for the common drive for Lots 10 and 11.  Before the undergrounding of the water, gas and fire hydrant supply lines, Kodiak removed the sidewalk and placed it along the dam to the upper lake, using it for riprap.

Precision Directional Boring had just installed water lines, TV, telephone and cable lines to the lot lines of Lots 11 and 13 and to the house on Lot 10, as well as the private hydrant installed for Lot 11.  It was time to bring change to the above-ground appearance of Lakeview's West River Road driveway and lots.  Kodiak began its capable work.

Kodiak first prepared the roadbed for the north turnaround driveway by excavating the topsoil to a depth of ten inches for the driveway.

This excavated soil was placed into the area for the future privacy mound for Lot 10.

In the areas next to the house, the original garage entrance and sidewalk were removed and replaced later by Kodiak.

Kodiak removed a large shrub that I wanted to save, then cleared the topsoil until a clay bed was reached.

Later, when the mound was formed, Kodiak planted the shrub in the mound.

Then they installed 3 to 4-inch quarried stone, ten inches deep and compacted it.

Kodiak choreographed a steady stream of trucks delivering the rock.  Once the large quarry rock had been compacted, then the trucks brought in the quarry fines to seal in the surface of the driveways.

This truck delivered a load of quarry fines.  Kodiak also added rock to the driveway to Lot 11 and spread the fines onto that driveway as well.

This load of fines was spread and another truck arrived to dump its load.

Final step for this driveway area was the compacting of the fines with the roller.

Before working on the rock, Kodiak had shaped the mound and quickly transplanted two shrubs that I wanted in the mound.  After the fines were compacted, I spread brown landscaping fabric over the mound, then anchored it with Cyprus bark from Smith Bros. Inc.

Kodiak encouraged me to use their skid steer to load my Cyprus bark onto the landscaping fabric.  They were kind enough to leave the skid steer for a few weeks so I could place bark onto all of the mounds that they had just installed.
