Lot 12 Mound 2009 to 2015

Since 2005 and 2009 when they were installed, the privacy mound for Lot 12 as well as the West River Road common drive entrance mound that serves as an additional privacy mound for Lot 12 have undergone some changes.  First of all, the shrubs, volunteer red cedars, other pines and hardwood saplings as well as the perennials have grown.

In 2009 when the undergrounding of the Lot 11 hydrant vault, water and electric, cable, telephone and future fiber optics conduits were installed, the Lot 12 privacy mound installed in 2005 became a part of a larger mound extending to the West River Road common drive entrance.  This is a panorama from the southwest of the 2005 mound and the mound for the hydrant vault.

Although the Taxus and burning bushes are growing well, the small herd of deer that visits this mound nightly keeps them pruned.  These are the Taxus and burning bush shrubs that I transplanted onto the Lot 13 mound.   Joe di Francesco of Kodiak recommended two seniors from Avon High School to help me.  Their names were Marquis Herrell and Colin Krebs to give me a hand with the transplanting.  After a short trial, I released them to enjoy their Summer break before college and continued with the transplanting solo.

Marquis was strong but inexperienced with transplanting, so he did other work.

Colin also was strong, but hadn't met a shovel he couldn't break when he tried to pry the roots of the shrubs out with the shovel instead of digging around the roots.  After the death of several shovels, in spite of instruction, we parted ways.

October 8, 2010, the mound was a riot of color.  The red cedars and shrubs and perennials that I planted in 2009 were doing well.  The mound is very long, so the next photo is the rest of the mound to the north.

This is the view to the northwest.  The Lot 12 home site would be about 100 feet away to the north of this portion of the mound.

This close up shows one of the red cedars which has grown well since it was transplanted in 2009.  Also shown are the asters and day lilies.  In addition I had transplanted some wild asters from the Lot 12 dam and added some larger sedum varieties.

Standing on the West River Road entrance mound, looking north, the various junipers that I had planted in 2009 have grown as well as the red cedars that I transplanted on the crest of the mound.

2012 to 2014 I had other projects that I worked on for Lakeview so I didn't take pictures specifically of the mound.  April 29, 2015 I took some views of the mound, including the area of the Lot 11 hydrant vault.  This view is from the southeast.

An April 29, 2015 closer focus on just the Lot 12 mound installed in 2005 shows the red cedars and other shrubs growing very well.

It was May 19, 2015 and Town and Country Tree Service had just felled 5 Scotch pines on Lot 12 that had died over the winter.  This view from the west of the back side of the mound shows how tall the red cedars have grown.  They are well over my head and widening to form a visual barrier.
